Service(s) descriptionReel Stories After School Program introduces young women and gender non-conforming youth to media literacy and filmmaking. The objective of the 10-week program is that youth learn how to view current media critically and thoughtfully and to create media that is reflective to their unique point of view and experience. Reel Stories provides the media literacy and filmmaking curriculum, the equipment for the students to write, shoot and edit their own short film. Reel Stories provides a qualified Media Teacher and classroom assistant.
Program impactAttendees will make a short film entirely written, shot and edited by the youth themselves Attendees will get to learn and utilize interdisciplinary art skills, including visual arts, graphic design, creative writing and photography Attendees will participate in media literacy curriculum that will teach them how to view current media more critically and thoughtfully and how to create media that represents their point of view Attendees will gain important soft skills including collaboration, giving and receiving constructive criticism, public speaking and creative problem solving
