Organization Description
Service(s) description | Oakland Serves mentors will volunteer on the school grounds, during school hours, though the school year. Vetted and trained volunteer mentors from the community are matched with an Oakland High School student who needs support and encouragement to graduate high school. Mentors will inspire students to believe in themselves, complete their homework, and turn it in. Mentors are compassionate committed adults who can give their student the confidence and know-how to graduate with a high school diploma. |
Program impact | Oakland Serves seeks to increase the graduation rate of students within OUSD's high schools. Mentors meet weekly, once a week for the academic year with their mentees to offer encouragement and assistance . It is expected that the grades of the mentored students will improve over time and that the students chances of graduation will rise. |
