Organization Description
Service(s) description | Youth Together operates One Land, One People Centers on high school campuses that provide academic support, leadership development, and college and career readiness services to students. The Lead Student Organizer program trains a total of 15 youth (Lead Student Organizers) in the areas of student organizing, ethnic studies, and educational advocacy, and diversity and inclusion strategies. Lead Student Organizers provide core programming - peer tutoring, graduation and dropout prevention workshops, Unity Day/Week (campus specific event with adult and youth lead workshops and community building activities using the arts and culturally specific practices to encourage multiracial collaboration and peace). In addition, Youth Together works with community partners to provide youth identified, services such as - spoken word workshops, dance, martial arts, cultural arts (e.g. Dia De Los Muertos altar making). The LSOs from all schools collaborate to produce the Ethnic Studies conference: a day long regional event highlighting the contemporary and historical contributions of communities of color to the United States. |
Program impact | Youth Together services help students of color create pathways of success for healthy transitions to adulthood. Our students are positively impacted by our programs because they experience an increase school connectedness, achieve the requirements for graduation, receive college and career readiness skills, develop cultural pride, and act as leaders in their school communities and beyond. |
