Program DescriptionThe center provides academic support, leadership development, and college and career readiness services to students attending each school. The Lead Student Organizer program trains a total of 12 youth (Lead Student Organizers) in the areas of student organizing, ethnic studies, and educational advocacy, and diversity and inclusion strategies. Lead Student Organizers provide core programming - peer tutoring, graduation and dropout prevention workshops, Unity Day/Week (campus specific event with adult and youth lead workshops and community building activities using the arts and culturally specific practices to encourage multiracial collaboration and peace). Lead Student Organizers also gain workforce development skills by learning how to use arts and cultural activities to do peer education workshops addressing barriers to graduation, Ethnic Studies and Educational Justice. In addition, Youth Together works with community partners to provide youth identified, services such as - spoken word workshops, dance, martial arts, cultural arts (e.g. Dia De Los Muertos altar making). The LSOs from all schools collaborate to produce the Ethnic Studies conference: a day long regional event highlighting the contemporary and historical contributions of communities of color to the United States.
