Program DescriptionSequoia Healthy Start (SHS) is a collaborative program of East Bay Agency for Children staff, community members, parents, teachers, and administrators. Together, we have provided afterschool, mental health and family support services at Sequoia Elementary School since 2000. Our afterschool vision and mission are: Every student’s spark is kindled, nurtured and encouraged to radiate! SHS exposes students to a variety of academic and enrichment activities, carried out in a safe and supportive environment. We support and encourage students to use their voice, build their character, and connect with their communities. The goal of the academic support component is to create an environment where students can have fun writing and see themselves as successful writers. The goal of the enrichment activities is to expose students to a variety of classes, opportunities and to support their individual interests. Our students have the opportunity to participate in the following enrichment activities: Recreation, Ultimate Lego, Justice League (Climate/Friendship Class), African Drumming, Recreation, Weaving, Dance, Creative Club (Arts), Gardening, How Things Work (Science), Iron Chefs (Cooking & Nutrition).
