Program DescriptionThe program at Prescott Elementary provides 3rd-5th grade students with intensive circus arts training through after school classes twice per week during the fall and spring semesters. Students receive top-quality instruction by professional artists and, as they develop their performance and leadership skills, have the opportunity to participate in a culminating performance at their school as well as our annual student showcase in the spring. Throughout the course of the program, students will acquire physical skills in all areas of our circus arts performance curriculum: juggling, acrobatics, unicycling, hambone body percussion, hip-hop dance, balancing, stilt dancing, and clowning. Additionally, they will connect their newly acquired skills with their historical and cultural and historical context, with emphasis on the African roots of Stilt Dancing and hambone body percussion. They will learn and use theater vocabulary and develop performance, production, improvisation, and evaluation skills as well as teamwork, confidence, and a dedication to working for success.
