Community School ElementExpanded Learning
Service TypesAfter school and youth development, Visual arts education and enrichment activities
Program DescriptionArt Enrichment after school at Redwood Heights Elementary School is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:15 in the Art Studio. These classes offer students from 1st-5th grade the opportunity to make/create art beyond the hour a week they get during the school day. I was the artist in residence and started and ran the Studio Art Program at RHS in 1999 and retired in June 2017. I know all of the students, having worked with them during the day and having run the enrichment program at RHS for years. After school art is a way for students to work on projects of their own choice, problem solve, explore, create and further develop their artistic sensibililities and voices. Students can learn and or hone their artistic skills. Some projects last one-day, other projects may last the entire session. Some projects are collaborative with friends/classmates and others are individual. I provide support where needed, whether it be engineering or 'what should i make today?' Students help clean up at the end of class and are picked up by their parents or after-care.
