| Service(s) description | Teens On Target is an after school program that focuses on training youth on violence prevention. Many of the youth participants come from some of the most violent areas in Oakland and have experienced violence themselves in some capacity. Teens On Target trains youth to share their experiences through the lens of our 6-part violence prevention curriculum that they can teach their peers and OUSD middle school students. In addition to the violence prevention workshops Teens On Target also provides mentoring, academic support, conflict mediation skill, case management referrals. Furthermore, youth are given opportunities to participate in various community events that give youth a voice such as City Council public hearings, community forums with Mayor, rallies and violence prevention conventions. |
| Program impact | Teens On Target Develops students into youth leaders. Through our violence prevention curriculum, we create a space for youth to share their experiences with violence while building their skills in presenting. After being trained in our curriculum, students put their leadership skills in practice with middle school peers through violence prevention workshops. By targeting middle schools, we are able to make an impact that helps cultivate future youth leaders. Teens On Target also helps provide a platform for youth to make an impact on a larger scale through community events, forums and rallies. |
