| Service(s) description | Our Unique Approach: America SCORES partners with urban schools to provide high quality, team-based programs that integrate soccer, poetry, and service-learning. Our innovative approach improves students' health, academic achievement and community engagement. Three-Step Process to Positive Youth Development: 1 - We engage youth and create teams through the sport of soccer. 2 - Students discover their voice through poetry. 3 - As a team, poet-athletes work together to make positive change in their community. |
| Program impact | SCORES students report heightened motivation to learn, improved self confidence and self esteem, and a greater sense of belonging. SCORES students are change-makers, tackling tangible issues that impact their own communities. SCORES significantly improves children's health outcomes. Students at risk for chronic health problems experience sharp gains in physical fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits. Numerous medically-backed studies demonstrate that participation in SCORES programming leads to decreased BMI, increased aerobic capacity, and changes in attitudes about healthy eating and physical activities. |
