Organization Description
Service(s) description | During the school year, Aspire Education Project (AEP) provides tutoring, ACT/SAT prep, and educational programming to schools and directly to families. Each summer, as part of Aspire's Community Reading Buddies program, AEP recruits over one hundred and fifty middle school and high school students to volunteer to read one-on-one with preK-3rd graders in OUSD Child Development Centers. |
Program impact | In the Community Reading Buddies program, 90% of participants show growth in literacy and school readiness skills. 94% of parents and 100% of teachers reported increased interest in books and reading. Community Reading Buddies is also about transferring knowledge in multiple directions—the preK-3rd graders improve their language and pre-literacy skills, the volunteers learn to teach, and everyone learns more about the greater East Bay community. Our school year tutoring and educational programming generally raises students performance by 1 letter grade. AEP Test Prep typically results in a 4 point gain on the ACT and 150 point gain on the SAT. |
Community programs are organized into categories known as Community School Elements. All community programs associated with Aspire Education are listed below and each program may be provided at 1 or more schools. You can use the 'Show Details' buttons to learn more about each program.
