Organization Description
Service(s) description | Luna Dance Institute offers high quality, standards-based dance education to students, classroom teachers, and school administrators through weekly dance classes and a side-by-side model for Professional Development (P.D.). Luna helps develop a full scope and sequence dance curriculum designed to be taken on fully by the school within 5-8 years, with ongoing support through our Professional Learning program. |
Program impact | Through a rigorous, standards-based approach to dance education that is inclusive of the multiple and varied resources within Oakland, Luna Dance Institute designs and instructs curriculum to approximatley 900 general and special education students and holds onging, relationships with approximately 28 classroom teachers each year within OUSD. Using a social-emotional approach to teaching, we teach creative dance composition classes that are developmentally appropriate and align with the National Core Arts Standards, instructed using Universal Design for Learning principles to meet the learning needs of students with all abilities. Through the above mentioned side-by-side Professional Development model, classroom teachers extend dance learning into the school day, integrating concepts from dance class into their curricular content to deepen student learning. By building a multi-year full scope and sequence dance curriculum from grades K - 5, and extending into middle school, we collaborate with school administrators, teachers, staff and students to create a school-wide culture of dance. |
