Organization Description
Service(s) description | We currently have run comprehensive after-school programs for elementary and middle school students at six sites, a garden and ecology high school internship program called Love Cultivating Schoolyards, and a youth development high school internship program called Roots. . Our programs are designed to support the development of children and youth by feeding the minds, bodies, and spirits of low-income youth and families in Oakland. Our After-School Programs are at: ASCEND School(K-8th Grade) Bret Harte Middle School (6th-8th Grade) Encompass Academy (K-5th Grade) International Community School (K-5th Grade) Think College Now (K-5th Grade) Learning Without Limits (K-5th grade) |
Program impact | Oakland Leaf’s programs are rooted in four key tools of transformation that correlate to the challenges and opportunities faced by the community. Rather than focusing solely on one aspect of enrichment, such as improving academic scores, we take a holistic approach—offering participants a broad range of activities that foster curiosity and insight about themselves and their community. We challenge students and their families to strive for what they want to achieve for themselves while creating the change they want to see in the community. Our program components focus on: 1. Critical thinking 2. Social Emotional Skills 3. Leadership and Empowerment 4. Social Justice Every year we conduct a mid-year youth survey and an end-of-the-year youth survey to track the impact of our outcomes in each of the tools of transformation. Each site and program has a logic model and theory of change which tracks the activities and goals attained during the program year. |
