Organization Description

Service(s) descriptionReading Partners is a national education nonprofit dedicated to improving students’ reading skills. Together with our school partners, Reading Partners focuses on students who are at least 5 months behind in reading, harnessing the power of community volunteers to provide individualized instruction to help them master the reading fundamentals they need to reach grade level. Students receive 45 minutes of one-on-one reading instruction from a trained community volunteer twice as week using our research-validated curriculum. Tutor takes place a the reading center at the school during the school day and after school. In the event that students are not on-campus, tutoring will be conducted virtually using our evidence-based curriculum.
Program impactIn 2018-19, Reading Partners served over 530 students at 11 reading centers and at 12 OUSD schools. Students enrolled in the program showed impressive growth, with 71% of students meeting or exceeding their end of year reading goal, and 85% of K-2nd grade students mastering the foundational reading skills needed to read at grade level. These students were supported by 600 community volunteers. In the 2019-20 school year, Reading Partners plans to serve 600 students at 11 schools in OUSD.
